Bundan yaklaşık iki hafta önce posta kutuma gelen bir maili okuduğumda çok şaşırıp, gurur duymuştum. Okyanuslar aşılmış, Amerika’dan keşfedilmiş biri olarak pekala birazcık da gururlanmalıydım. Neden mi?
Yıllardır işi hakkaniyetiyle yapmaya çalışıp, her geçen gün kendimi yenilemeye, hep birşeyler öğrenmeye çalışıp, ürettiğim için. Türkiye’de maddi ve reyting kaygıları olduğu için yerel dergilere bile makale yazıp ayrıca üzerine bir de para vermen gerekiyor😅. Oysa beni internette keşfedip sayfamı, blogumu beğenen Amerika California’da @jmglifestyle dergisi benden başarı hikayemi, modaya dair ipuçları içeren bir makale yazmamı istediler. Hatta inanın bundan daha uzun bir yazı istediler ama ben şaşkınlıkla ancak bu kadar yazabildim. Görsellerimi de dergide baskı olacağı için en az DPI300 formatında istediler. İnanamadık. Hatta arkadaşımın birine anlattığımda “Kesin para isterler!” dedi😄. Çünkü Ankara’da yerel dergi bile istiyorsa dedik, bu prestiji yüksek luxury&lifestyle dergisi; içinde ne dünyaca ünlü insanların yazıları ve röportajları var; ben kimimki dedim. Ayrıca dergi The Sun, Dailymail, Foxnews gibi kanallarda ve yayınlarda yer alıyor. Yazdım, resimleri gönderdim ve unuttum. Mayıs 2019 sayısına baktım beni etiketlemişler. Hemen PDF formatını indirdim ve evet tam 4 sayfa bana yer vermişler. Şimdi ben gurur duymayayım da ne yapayım? Bu anlamda üreten, emek veren Cumhuriyet kadınının başarı hikayesi için Amerika’dan keşfedilemeye gerek var mı, canım ülkem Türkiye dururken. Tüm serzenişlerim yerel ve ulusal basın yayın kuruluşlarına olsun o zaman. Sizce de hakkım değil mi? Ben yine Allah izin verdiği müddetçe blogumu yazmaya, fotoğraflarımı editlemeye, dikiş projelerimi gerçekleştirmeye devam edicem. Kim bilir, hayat daha ne güzel sürprizler getirecek...

Do you like following fashion? Ever since I was a child, I began to follow fashion, and to this day it is a big inspiration in my life but, more importantly my passion of designing and sewing clothes.
This was how my story began…. My father is a tailor. He is 71 years old and still, a tailor, not because he needs to work but because he loves his profession. When I was about ten years old, I used to go to my father's atelier to sew clothes for myself with my father's unused fabrics. My passion was set on hold when I began a career as an English Teacher. I have never taken any formal educational classes in sewing or designing; however, I felt it was my natural talent. Designing and sewing my clothes were a hobby as much of my time was consumed with teaching. After I became an English Teacher, I began searching for sewing techniques to be more professional. I watched a lot of sewing videos on internet. I improved my sewing techniques such as designing dress patterns. Even though I graduated with a degree in Teaching English, I never gave up my passion for fashion and designing. Watching fashion channels all my life gave me a different and creative perspective on fashion. I began to draw clothes and patterns and I put my study into practice. This makes me a bit different from other people, because my clothes are unique. They are not the same as the other people's clothes. So, I believe this makes me extraordinary and stylish. When my style attracted people, they wanted me to write a blog and give them tips about fashion and style. Up until that time, I didn't know what a blog was. Perhaps, it seems like nonsense to you, but I didn't like social media or using the internet for that matter. Since I didn't know anything about blogging, I made a point to research about it until midnight every day for three months. I took this knowledge and I began to write my blog, www.nilgunozenaydin.com, in 2014. I created everything on the blog by myself. I have two children, but I treat my blog as my third child. I love my blog. I feel free and relaxed while writing. It is a good way to have fun. Writing about fashion, style, sewing, styling, etc is enjoyable. Giving clues about combinations on style and sewing projects which attracts many people from all around the World. I have been sharing my style, my sewing projects and DIY projects on my blog. I am a very active blogger in Turkey.
Let's talk about fashion and style now. Style is very important. Fashion is changeable, but we cannot say this for style. You should have a style that makes you different from other people. Also, a style that makes you more self-confidence. If you don't feel well in a specific style, please give it up and change it or else it comes across as frumpy. So, wearing an appropriate dress is both easy and difficult. Whereas it is easy for the people who know the proportion of her/his body well, it is difficult for the people who have a complex style. In other words, if you have a sharp style such as vintage, gothic or bohemia style, you will have difficulty in another style combination. So, don't be so strict about style that restricts your outfits.
I have received a certificate in image consulting, and I utilize this education and knowledge gained through that experience and apply it to my fashion and style. I want to give some tips about colors. Using colors is also the important aspect of styles. If you use nude colors, you shouldn't use vivid colors; or if you use warm colors, you shouldn't use cold colors. For instance, if you have mink color in your combination, you can use cream, white, ivory and other soft colors with it. Color coordination is important. If you know how to match and mix colors in your clothes, you always look chic. In other words, to use right colors in combination brings chicness. Monochrome look is also my favorite look because of using only one color in combination. Matching two shades on the same color blends well, so your entire outfit becomes gorgeous. There is also an important thing that you should choose colors according to your skin tone. If you have a pale skin, you should use cold colors more; if you have a deeper skin tone, you should use warm colors more. This is the balance between cold and warm colors.
What about printed outfits? This year, we see animal prints on clothes at most of the seasons throughout the year. My favorite is, of course, leopard print. But you must be careful while using leopard print in your style combination. If you use it correctly, you look elegant. But, done incorrectly you can look wretched. Never use it on more than two pieces! There is another favorite of mine on print outfits. It is polka-dots! It is an inspiration of vintage style for me. You can use it in all colors. It is really an elegant print. Lastly you can never go wrong with Floral prints as it is always fashionable and timeless.
Fashion and styling are very wide subjects. We can say that styling represents one's lifestyle. It also reflects one's personality. We can talk about fashion and styling for days and days. Perhaps, if you see a remarkable styling in the near future, there is always a possibility it will become a trend. So, please look around carefully and you can always look for inspiration.
